I just wanted to use this chance to apologise for the confusion with the tour - it got quite heated and unnecessarily so.
First issue was in 2nd or 3rd round I decided that it was unfair for 4 out of 5 to go through from KO matches so I said 3/5 through and 4.5/6 through for A2 matches. The 9th player going through of the 2 A2 matches would be the player closest to 4th place in their game. In this case pandaeyes and JONATHAN_THE_GREAT were equal 4th and 5th in one room, so given that the difference was +0, they both went through. Squidward101, 4 points of 4th in his game, was therefore knocked out.
The next issue was quarter J in which adrianik left leaving a place for Squidward to play. My game had started so I was unwilling to leave - this was wrong of me as tour organiser - but in the end the anger and childishness of a couple of players lead to half the room being kicked before the game began. With all the other quarter finals finished and the situation with quarter J confusing - a bit of a “lose-lose situation” - I decided to get the semi final match started as quickly as possible by asking for a game to 10 without powerups. This was unfortunate for the players of quarter J and I apologise about this. In retrospect I should have made sure that all other games started before my own.
Its clear to me that the issues of this tournament stemmed mostly from players leaving the tournament early even though they were still in. I had my own ideas about how this issue should be dealt with, believing that if a player wants to leave, they do not have the right to choose for a friend to replace them when someone else perhaps deserves it more given the points and position they finished in. I didn’t make this clear until too late leading to things getting out of control.
This was as many of you know my first tournament and it’s clear I overlooked a major issue. If I ever hold a tournament again I will make the concept simpler and will be more clear and strict with the rules.
All in all, ignoring the confusion due to people leaving early, I hope participants enjoyed the new schedule type, designed to allow “weaker” players to continue right into later in the tournament. I think this type of schedule should be more inclusive than what is usually used in cf3 tournaments so I hope others try it out again with different powerups etc.
I made a short video recording of the final on my phone, which I think should be quite funny (I hope). I’ll try and get that added here if I can. xD
